The Archbishop Spalding (Md.) 6-8 senior forward will make an official announcement between Maryland and UConn at his school on Monday afternoon.
Gay was debating whether to take an unofficial visit this past weekend to College Park, but the decision was basically made for him when he had to have dental work done on his teeth as a result of an accident in practice on Thursday.
``He cracked his tooth two years ago at Nike Camp," Cecil Kirk coach Anthony Lewis said. "He had a couple of caps put on and one of them fell off in practice on Thursday, so he had to go to the dentist on Saturday."
That, according to Lewis, postponed a family meeting that was supposed to be held on Thursday or Friday.
Lewis said that Gay and his family, which consisted of his mother, father, grandmother, aunt, cousins and sisters, talked about the decision on Sunday and came up with a decision.
``I think he honestly feels relieved," Lewis added. "This was a decision he truly agonized over."
