"Yeah he did," says Northeast Guilford head coach Tommy Pursley. "He visited Maryland this past weekend, they offered, and he accepted it."
The Terps, who are close on scholarships this year, talked about greyshirting Deese, but the enrollment date is a fluid situation currently.
"They are right now ninety nine percent sure it will be in the fall, but there is a slight chance it could be in January. It depends on kids who may or may not come through with a commitment."
Deese, who had surgery on his right knee last year injured his other knee this year before the Shrine Bowl game. Some teams backed off after hearing of the second surgery.
"That's one reason they waited until they had him up there to offer him. Their team doctor was confident in his knee. Our team doctor who actually operated on him said that Matt was ahead of schedule in rehab and will release him by June 1st and expects him by August to be 100%. The Maryland doctors must have liked what they saw because they offered him."
