Profile: Clyde Yandell

St. Augustine (Fla.) offensive tackle Clyde Yandell would like to hear more from Notre Dame and Michigan, but that hasn't happened yet. And he'd like to make his decision sometime in the next month or so, but that, too, is uncertain. Both of those variables will help determine whether Maryland – one of Yandell's top five schools – is a player for his services.

Yandell, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound senior, says his list of schools looks like this: Florida, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina State and Northwestern. He’d like to make a commitment in September, but could extend his recruitment, which would play in the Terps’ favor since he hasn’t visited College Park yet.

“I haven’t been there yet but I’m just trying to learn what I can about the school,” said Yandell, who has more than 20 offers and is one of the top offensive line prospects in North Florida. “I’ve had a few teammates who were recruited by Maryland and visited, and said a lot of good things about it.”

Yandell has been hearing from Terps assistant coach Al Seamonson.

“They’re saying there’s a real need for offensive linemen this year based on the depth chart, and I think it’s a favorable situation,” said Yandell, a converted defensive lineman.

Yandell toured the nation this summer, attending camps and making visits to a long list of schools: Duke, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Wake Forest and North Carolina. It appears he would jump at an offer from Notre Dame or Michigan. And he may favor some of the other schools on his list. But since he insisted Maryland remains in the equation, it’s worth keeping tabs on him.
