Local Son of NFL Star Getting Terp Attention

Davin Meggett, the son of former NFL player Dave Meggett, is still working on getting his first scholarship offer. The stocky 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back from Clinton, Md. has Maryland and Virginia listed as his top two schools.

Maryland's recruiting coordinator and assistant coach Dave Sollazzo visited Meggett for Surrattsville High's track meet on Thursday. Going into the meet, Meggett said the Terps "were going to offer me if I ran a good time," and Meggett was more than pleased with his 10.7 100-meter dash.

"That was way in front of where I wanted to run. I just wanted to break 10.9," Meggett said.

His performance earned him a verbal offer from Howard University. In addition to Howard and Maryland, Meggett said that a Syracuse assistant was in attendance for his meet. His summer plans include one-day summer camps to Virginia and Maryland, as well as Akron and possibly Syracuse, but noted that a trip to Syracuse would likely last longer than a day.

Last time Meggett ran a 40-yard dash he was clocked at 4.54, but noted that he ran a 4.63 at the state combine. He also recently bench pressed 350 pounds.

An all-state honorable mention last year, Meggett predicts a state championship in his senior year. "I don't see anybody in the state who can stop us," he said. "We play probably one of the toughest leagues, so I don't see why any school outside [Prince George's County] has anything else to offer."

As far as getting advice from his old man, Meggett says that the two do not discuss football at all. "We talk about 7-11 and stuff," Meggett joked. "I think that's the way it should be. It shouldn't be forced football, and make them do this and that."

Meggett keeps in touch with former teammate and current Terrapin cornerback Anthony Wiseman. "We went to high school together," Meggett said. "He used to give me rides to practice. [We] are real close."

As of right now, Meggett does not have an official offer from either Virginia or Maryland. "I talked to [Coach Sollazzo] after the meet. He said he was impressed by the way I was running. We should hear something from him soon," Meggett said.

In terms of other offers, Meggett said that "UVA is probably close. Other than [UVA and Maryland], I wouldn't have the slightest idea. I'm too into my schoolwork.

Meggett currently boasts a 3.5 GPA.
