Could Kim be closing in on a commitment?

When Maryland coach Gary Williams and assistant Chuck Driesell visited South Kent (CT) Prep recently, they came away so impressed with junior forward Jin Soo Kim, they offered him a scholarship on the spot. And the interest was mutual—Kim took a visit to Maryland Madness on Friday night and a commitment could come as soon as this weekend.

Kim, who was accompanied by his cousin John Kim, a '99 Maryland graduate, toured the campus and sat in on a class before taking in Friday night's festivities. He got a chance to meet with Williams and Driesell again and it seems like they made a good pitch.

"Overall he was impressed with the coaching staff [and] the actual campus," John Kim said.

"[The coaches] are always kind and everything is pretty good, it looks like," Jin Soo Kim added.

Kim said that John got him interested in taking a visit. John said that Maryland is "[Jin's] first choice." Kim's other two top schools are Cal-Berkeley—which has offered him a scholarship—and Georgetown. He had planned to visit schools in August, but he was still competing with the South Korean national team.

Kim's visit to Maryland this weekend—which continues later today when he sits in on practice--was his first collegiate visit.

"It maybe his last," John Kim said.

With that revelation, could Kim be on the verge of a commitment?

"Ideally what he wants to do is make a verbal commitment to a school early before the season starts just to focus on academics during the season," John Kim said. "We're going to talk about it tonight… [Saturday's] going to probably be a big day. He's going make a decision based on his observations [today]."

When asked about the possibility of a commitment tomorrow, Kim laughed and said "maybe." will keep you up to the minute as Kim's recruitment continues.
