Big-time Local Junior OL Big on Terps
White grew up a Maryland fan and has maintained his interest in the Terps as his recruitment has heated up. In fact, he was just out in College Park today checking out practice and talking to head coach Ralph Friedgen.
"I love what coach Friedgen has done with the program. I have followed Maryland since I was ten or nine years old. That year they won the Orange Bowl, that was a really fun team to watch, Bruce Perry and all of those guys," White said.
White, who lives in nearby Upper Marlboro, will likely be one of the top offensive linemen on the East Coast in next year's senior class. He's got offers from Maryland, Tennessee and Pittsburgh along with interest from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, Penn State, Georgia Tech, UNC, Ohio State, Boston College, Notre Dame, Stanford, N.C. State and Colorado. Virginia, BC and N.C. State are expected to offer next week.
Maryland was the first to offer White.
"I think they're definitely the most interested," said White, who is being recruited by defensive coordinator Chris Cosh. "Coach Cosh, I think he's a terrific man. I really like him a lot. He's got a great personality and he really loves football."
White has been in College Park quite a bit visiting his sister, a sophomore at Maryland, and has been at more than a few Terps games and practices. The idea of being a hometown star is one that appeals to him, especially since his sister told him it doesn't feel like it's too close to home.
"She told me it really feels like she's not all that close to home," he said. "I definitely can see myself playing there."
White, who has started for St. John's in the ultra-competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference since his freshman year, plays both sides of the ball. But he expects he'll most likely be an offensive tackle in college. He's a dominating run blocker with excellent grades and a great disposition. Education, he said, will be his primary factor in choosing a school. He'll take more visits this summer and hopes to have a decision before the start of his senior year.
