D.C. Native Crump Hearing from Terps
"They'd definitely be a high contender. They'd have a good chance to get me," said Crump, who currently claims offers from Wake Forest, Oregon State, Marquette, Providence, Michigan, DePaul, Rutgers and George Washington.
"It's very appealing to be right around the corner from my home. Maryland is about 15 minutes from where I grew up, so that would be cool to have my family at all of the home games."
Crump is a 6-foot-7, 210-pound rising senior who specializes in shooting from outside, though he's also a solid rebounder. Last year he averaged 10 points per game while shooting 50 percent from 3-point range for a loaded Brewster team featuring Emmanuel Negedu (Tennessee ), Anthony Crater (Ohio State) and Mark Lyons (Xavier).
"A strong Reebok All-American camp turned heads his way," said Scout.com Recruiting Director Dave Telep. "The strength of his game is his ability to make a jump shot to the 3-point line. I think he'll be a four-man in college who can stretch defenses." Crump's game sounds similar to current Terps recruit Jin Soo Kim, against whom he has played repeatedly.
"He's a little bit taller than I am. He shoots the ball pretty well, but he's a bit leaner than I am," Crump said. "I can rebound, offensively and defensively, and I take pride in my on-ball defense. I'm very competitive. I love to win. I'm just a fierce competitor."
Crump began his high school career as a freshman at National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, MD. He then headed to the Tilton School, also in New Hampshire, before moving along to Brewster Academy. Academics and the opportunity to see better competition motivated the moves, he said; he boasts a 3.4 GPA and speaks more maturely than many others his age.
Crump plays AAU ball with Arizona Pump and Run because his father lives in Arizona. He visited Maryland this summer and had the chance to play pickup with the current players. He plans to visit again and spoke with Terps assistant Chuck Driesell two days ago.
"He said that I'm high on their list and they look forward to having me visit again and possibly sitting down and meeting with the coaching staff," he said.
Crump would like to commit sooner rather than later, but won't rush it. It remains to be seen whether or not the Terps will offer him, but there's no question he's quite interested in becoming a Terp should the chance present itself at some point.
