Terps Tame the Wolfpack

The Terps (18-10, 7-7 ACC) traveled to Raleigh, N.C., Sunday night to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack (15-12, 5-9 ACC).

In a game that would be a deciding factor to whether or not the Maryland Athletic Department should start looking into airline tickets for the NCAA Tournament, Maryland did anything but disappoint. Greivis Vasquez was ready to redeem himself from an upsetting performance against Duke, and he did so by having 5 assists and scoring 33 points to lead Maryland to a 71-60 victory over NC State. Although Maryland led for a majority of the game, there were a few times where Tracy Smith (19 points) and the Wolfpack were able to make Gary Williams pace the sideline more than usual. Dave Neal, who has been having a big impact for

Maryland this year, played a big part in the Terp win with 11 points, 8 defensive rebounds, and went 3 for 5 from behind the arch.

Although Vasquez had a great performance, he didn't make any new friends in Raleigh with his routine crowd taunting and unnecessary 3- pointer at the final buzzer. In his post game interview, Vasquez did make a point to let Maryland fans know that he was ready to complete the task come Tuesday night.

With an impressive win on the road in the ACC (something the Terps haven't exactly been successful with this season) they now look ahead and prepare to host #13 Wake Forest on Tuesday night in the Comcast Center. If Maryland can win out the rest of the season, their hopes to make a trip to the "big dance" will be very much alive and igniting the flame that has been missing in College Park the past few seasons.
