2010 Prospect Kouandjio Talks Terps

Ethan Rothstein talks to 2010 prospect Arie Kouandjio about his interest in Maryland

Arie Kouandjio, a burly offensive lineman from close-by DeMatha high school, has a lot of schools to choose from for next year.

Kouandjio said he's looking for a good academic program and the chance to start playing right away.

Maryland certainly qualifies for the second of his criteria, as the Terps' offensive line sorely lacks experience and has struggled mightily so far. This has not gone unnoticed by the 6'6” 320-pounder from Hyattsville.

“What draws me to Maryland the most is it's close and it's a good school and program,” he said. “[On] the line, nobody's really situated and I can come in and fight for a spot.”

He is an experienced patron of Byrd Stadium, and he says he likes the atmosphere and the fans. However, he's far from making a choice - something he said will likely happen on signing day.

Kouandjio plans to visit Alabama and Cal at some point, but he said he isn't sure when.

As far as his game is concerned, Kouandjio says he's working on his run blocking and explosiveness.

“After practice, I come home and push tires up a hill…and stuff like that,” he said.
