I loved the defensive scheme that game, says Young, a linebacker at Suitland High in District Heights, Md. And I liked how they fought the whole game.
Young's interest in the Terps peaked back in July when his good friend and teammate Jeremiah Johnson received and accepted a Maryland offer.
I want to go to a school where I know at least one person who goes there, Young says.
That explains why the list of schools Young is high on - in addition to Maryland - includes Delaware State (where his cousin Jadira Green plays), Temple and Syracuse. Young says he added Temple and Syracuse to his top five after both had given offers to his teammate Dontrewell Kelley.
In addition to familiar faces, a good academic program for his intended majors of psychology and journalism are a huge factor for Young.
For the moment, however, Young holds no offers. But the 5-foot 11, 206-pound junior believes his play will warrant them eventually.
Young says he has more than 70 tackles on the season (for an average of about 13 per game), and that he has proven to be one of the most versatile players on the team.
His on-field play, along with his measurables (4.6 40-yard dash, 4.19 shuttle drill, and 7.13 cone drill), has earned Young the nickname Mr. Incredible.
Young will focus on playing out the rest of his junior year, and then look into visiting as many schools as possible. He hopes to have made a commitment by the start of his senior season.
