Terps Look Sharp In Exhibition

The Maryland Women's team took on Bowie State in their first exhibition game of the season. The young Terps had no problem handling an over matched Bowie State team.

With a roster that features just two seniors, and nine underclassmen, many have wondered if the Lady Terps will be able to continue their recent success this season. The Lady Terps got off to the right foot in yesterday's exhibition game against Bowie State, dominating the Bulldogs, 90-48.

The Lady Terps turned in an all-around terrific effort Wednesday night, suffocating Bowie State on defense. Maryland held Bowie State to a 25.7% shooting percentage for the game, allowing just three Lady Bulldogs to score in double figures.

On offense, the Terps scored almost at will. Freshmen Tianna Hawkins finished with a double-double, as she scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The Terps were also helped by 18 points from Sophomore Kim Rodgers, 10 points from Lori Bjork, and 10 points and 8 rebounds from Lynetta Kizer. Maryland's bench outscored the bench of Bowie State, 54-23.

Another encouraging sign to the season was Maryland's dominance on the boards, outrebounding Bowie State 63-36. The Lady Terps also had 36 points in the paint, compared to the 20 scored by the Lady Bulldogs. Maryland also had a 24-8 advantage in second-chance points off rebounds.

The Lady Terps still have one more exhibition game to get ready for the upcoming season. Maryland will play at home against Catholic University on Tuesday, November 10th at 7 PM. The regular season begins November 14th against North Carolina Central at the Comcast Center.
