This is by far the toughest competition that the Terps have faced outside of the Maui Classic this season. The Tribe come into the game red hot, winners of eight straight games including a win in Winston Salem against Wake Forest. In their first game of the year the Tribe gave UCONN all they could handle before eventually falling by nine points. They will not be intimidated going into the Comcast Center and the Terps will need to play their A game to come out with a victory.
The Tribe have three scorers in double figures on the season, led by David Schneider and his 17.3ppg. As a team they shoot 41 percent from 3 point range and 3 point defense has been the Terps Achilles heel this season. The three point basket is the great equalizer and it often keeps less talented teams in games against better competition; if they hit their 3's the Tribe will not only be in the game but will likely come out with a victory.
In order to come out victorious the Terps are going to need to make shots. I know that doesn't exactly sound like the best analysis but it really is the key to victory. The Tribe will score and the Terps will have to be extremely efficient on the offensive end to avoid losing. This game is scheduled an one of the most inopportune times for the Terps who are playing much better competition then their previous three opponents and are playing at home while the student body is on Christmas break. The Terps looked less than impressive against Florida Atlantic and will need to come out focused for the entire 40 minutes or they will get beat in their own gym. They are facing a guard laden, undersized team like themselves so Dino Gregory and Jordan Williams should be major factors. Mosley, Hayes and Vasquez will need to hit 3's while Milbourne should pose a matchup problem for the Tribe.
The CAA may be the best of the mid major conferences and William & Mary may be the best team in that conference. Over the last few seasons mid major's from lesser conferences have beaten the Terps on their home floor and history could repeat itself. This game will be close throughout, as the Tribe will not be intimidated and will come into the game with the mind set that they can win. The win over Wake Forest is the best win that either team posses and that should scare the Terps. I think the Tribe have a very, very, very good shot of winning the game but I will pick the Terps in a nailbiter. Terps 71- Tribe 70, although it would not surprise me in the least to see the Tribe win and win by more then five.
