Jabari Brown Has "Always Liked Maryland"

2011 shooting guard prospect Jabari Brown from Oakland, CA has high interest in Maryland.

Jabari Brown, the 2011 SG from Oakland Senior High School (CA) feels good about his season so far. “I'm playing really well, and I think I've got to continue to play well and help my team get wins,” Brown said.

He also feels good about Maryland.

“I like Maryland. I've always liked Maryland. I've always liked Coach Williams,” Brown said. “I think the ACC is one of the best conferences and I like their style of play. So I'm definitely interested in Maryland.”

Gary Williams is a big reason that Jabari is thinking about Maryland. “I think he's a great coach, he gets his players to the NBA,” Brown said. “I'm just looking for a coach to get me to the next level.”

Brown knows what he wants in a system. “A system that gets up and down, gives the players freedom to play their game,” Brown attests.

Jabari feels like his playing style would fit that type of system.

“I like playing up-tempo. I'm a scorer but I can still set up my teammates. I'm a versatile player also.

You don't want to just be a shooter, but you don't want to just drive. Gotta do both.”

The other side of the court is very important to Jabari as well.

“I think defense, a lot of it is just desire. In the past, it wasn't my biggest desire to lock up my man and all that. I changed that,” Brown said.

Carmelo Anthony is Brown's favorite player, “but the player that I try to be most like is probably Brandon Roy,” Brown said.

Though Brown is from the West coast and would like to play close to home, it won't be a major factor in his decision. He does not have a favorite at this point.

“I don't have a timetable. I don't want to say until I find the right school for me,” Brown said. “It could be a couple months from now; it could be during my senior year; you never know.”

He does know what he wants in a school though. “An up-tempo style of play with a great coach and great fans and atmosphere,” Brown said. “A place that really loves their college basketball.”

Though he doesn't have favorites, he knows what schools are interested in him. “Cal, Washington, Wake Forest, Miami, Arizona, Gonzaga, Stanford, Texas A&M, those are the main ones showing me the most interest,” Brown said.

Brown sees himself in either of two conferences.

“I like the Pac-10. I'm a West coast kid. But the ACC has speedy play and is one of the best conferences, so I'm definitely interested in playing [there].” Brown said.

There is one thing Brown wants schools to know. “I'm a hard-working player. All I want to do is win games and be successful,” Brown said. “I don't have any attitude problems or anything like that. I know I've transferred schools a few times, so people on the outside might question that, but it's not a question of being a bad person or [anything] like that.”
