2011 Intro- Jonathan Woodruff

The Maryland Terrapins are beginning to show strong interest in 2011 defensive end.

With his junior season in the books, Jonathan Woodruff has much to look forward to. At 6 foot 2 and 186 pounds Woodruff has a strong physical foundation to develop into a premium talent, and schools are taking notice. This rising senior has received letters from Michigan, Illinois, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, Maryland and Duke. Although many schools are showing interest he says he is “just taking everything day by day.”

It appears Maryland and Duke are showing the most interest in the Westlake standout. He will be attending Duke's Junior Day on February 20th and was planning on attending Maryland's as well. However, the inclement weather forced Maryland to postpone their Junior Day to the same day as Duke's. “I chose to go Duke's Junior Day because Maryland is not that far away so it is easier to visit.”

Even if Woodruff cannot attend Maryland's Junior Day he has heard positive feedback from the coaching staff. “They like my explosiveness. They also believe I can play the defensive position, but I need to improve my ability to change direction.”

Woodruff has been playing defensive end since he entered high school, although last season was a little disappointing for Woodruff at that position. “Last year was a little disappointing. I had to play different positions because we had a couple of guys on the team were not able to play.” He has heard from some coaches that there could be a possibility he could play outside linebacker. “I would not mind playing outside linebacker. I would like to show coaches that I could cover people in the open field.”

There was one major factor Woodruff mentioned about choosing a school, location. “I would like to probably go to a school farther away from home.” He is also interested in majoring in either criminal justice or oceanography.
