Catching up with Coles

2011 running back prospect is starting to garner a lot of interest from the Terps.

Although he maybe a slightly undersized at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, 2011 running back prospect Shaquan Coles plays a large role for Curtis High School.

Coles has been on the varsity squad since his sophomore year where he has done nothing but produce results. In his two years on varsity, Coles has carried the ball 236 times for 2,248 yards and 29 touchdowns.

He was so outstanding during his junior season that he led the city of New York in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and total points as he earned 4th team All-State, All-City, All-Staten Island All Stars.

Coles has not received any offers yet, but plenty of big schools are looking at him. “I have received interest from Michigan, Maryland, Illinois, Notre Dame, USF, Duke, Penn State, Boston College, Rutgers and Syracuse. I have been to Boston College and Rutgers already and will be attending the Nike Combine at Penn State on May 3. If I do well at the Penn State, I am hoping to be put on ESPN Rise and gain a lot of attention.”

Maryland has been showing plenty of interest as well. “Maryland has been sending me a lot of mail. They asked me to attend their summer camp, and I plan on attending. I have not talked to any of the coaches, and I don't know a lot about Maryland, but I will definitely be attending their camp in June.”

This summer Coles will be making his rounds to many colleges and camps, and the offers should begin to role in as well. He would like to make a decision on a school fairly early into his senior season, preferably one with strong academics. Cole is very kind young man with a bright future ahead of him, who should be at the top of the 2011 recruiting class.
