Williams Getting Ready for Visits

2011 prospect holds an offer from the Terps but is also hearing from a lot of other schools.

Although 5-foot-11, 175 defensive back and wide receiver Michael Williams is in the midst of his track season now, the Dematha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, MD) is making a plan to start visiting schools vying for his football services. Williams is currently holding an offer from the University of Maryland, and is also being recruited by Virginia, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Towson, and Illinois, and wants to visit some of those schools once he is out of school for the summer.

“I’m trying to visit schools during the summer,” said Williams. “I’m trying to get a list ready to see where I’m going to visit.”

One of the schools that Williams figures to visit is Maryland. Williams seems to like the Maryland coaching staff and the fact that College Park is just one Metro stop away from Hyattsville.

“It’s a good school. It’s close to home. I like the coaching staff. I like how they run stuff. I like Coach Franklin and Coach Friedgen,” Williams said. “I like how they fly to the ball. I like how they’re not scared of playing you when you’re young, and it doesn’t what year you are. You can be a freshman.”

One of the things that also turns Williams towards Maryland is the chance to play early. After Friedgen played multiple freshmen last season, Williams would love to get the chance to do the same at the collegiate level. He knows Friedgen is a coach that could give him an early taste of life at the collegiate level if he performs well.

“He’s not scared to put anybody on the field that he knows will get the job done, Williams said. “I’m going to keep working hard so I can get my feet wet. As a freshman, I just want to get my feet a little bit and get to know the game speed.
