As a member of the class of 2013, Desmond Jackson is younger than most when it comes to big time college football recruits. However, Desmond Jackson is better than most.
The 5'9", 160 pound running back led West Rowan High School (Mt. Ulla, NC) to an undefeated season and the 3A state championship. As a freshman, Jackson had 916 total yards with 18 total touchdowns on offense and 5 interceptions on defense.
Aside from his incredible production, Jackson's speed is what really sets him apart from other prospects his age. The running back runs a 4.5 40 yard dash, which will only approve as he grows, both physically and as a player.
When asked what he needed to work on, Jackson said he wanted to get even faster, also noting that he wanted to make "even higher grades".
Jackson is being recruited for the most part at running back and slot receiver, although he says he will play anywhere a team needs him. He is being recruited pretty heavily by some of the top schools in the southeast, including Auburn and LSU.
Recently, Jackson attended a camp at Maryland for potential recruits, and is hoping to hear more from the school soon.
"I love the location of the school," he said. "And the coaching staff. Coach [Lee] Hull and the rest of the coaching staff was great".
When asked if he had any concerns about Maryland, Jackson replied "None at all."
For a team always looking for the next big playmaker on offense, Maryland would be smart to try and pick up this star from the Tar Heel State.
