Maryland in the Hunt for Matias

The Union Senior HS (NJ) offensive tackle has shown interest in Maryland.

2011 prospect Josue Matias recently added to his list of schools battling for his commitment as Michigan and Cincinnati have extended offers to the 6 foot 5 290 pound offensive tackle. Michigan and Cincinnati join Connecticut, East Carolina, Maryland, Purdue, and Rutgers as the schools offering the Union High standout a chance to play at the collegiate level, with many other schools showing interest.

"Rutgers, Maryland, UConn, Florida, and Georgia are recruiting me the hardest," said Matias. At the moment, Matias has only visited Maryland and Rutgers and has no immediate plans to visit any other schools.

Every school that is showing interest in Matias is still in the hunt. "Right now, I have no top choices. I am just taking as much info from every college that has offered. Around August I will break it down the list to around fourteen schools. It will be very difficult to narrow down my list since a lot of the schools fit my criteria," he explained.

Maryland has been in constant contact with Matias, especially Coach Sollazzo. " Coach Sollazzo has told me that I would not have a problem starting quickly and he really likes my explosion."

His criteria for choosing a school will mostly be based on early playing time, the location, and the people surrounding the program. After he narrows down his list of schools, Matias will visit schools and make his decision shortly after.
