Maryland At Top Of Williams' List

2011 Dematha cornerback Michael Williams puts Terps at number one on his list.

Dematha Catholic High School’s elite senior cornerback Michael Williams is quite the easygoing guy off the field. However, once he steps onto the field he quickly becomes a force on the gridiron, “On the field I play through my game,” said Williams. “As soon as I put on those pads, I am all business.”

At 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, the top-flight corner has received a large amount of interest from a number of schools, including offers from Towson, Ohio, Buffalo, Illinois, and Maryland. Nonetheless, University of Maryland currently stands as the favorite to land the highly touted recruit, “University of Maryland is definitely at the top of my list,” said Williams.

Although Williams has yet to take an official visit to the College Park campus, he has taken multiple unofficial visits over the last two years. “I like the campus a lot,” explained Williams. “It’s close to home and has a great feel to it.”

The cornerback has been very attracted to the large list of things Maryland has to offer; citing its good academics, long list of majors, good atmosphere, and exceptional student life, “It just seems like it’s a good fit,” Williams stated about Maryland.

Williams has had a very close relationship with Maryland coaches over the past year; speaking to them every two weeks up until June. The coaches have been extremely impressed with the corner’s back peddling ability and his 4.43-second 40-yard dash speed, which he mentioned as his best assets on the field.

During the upcoming football season, Williams plans on visiting all five schools that have given him a scholarship offer. “I’m going to take my time making a decision,” Williams added. “It’s important that I find a school that can become my family.”
