Coxson Talks About Transfer To Maryland talked with 2010 WR Adrian Coxson formerly of Baltimore City College High School (Baltimore, MD) who had committed and started practice with the Florida Gators. The four-star prospect decided to transfer to Maryland and will start attending practice this week.

Adrian Coxson had a hectic recruiting process as a junior and senior in high school. Then after committing to Florida and starting fall practice Coxson decided that UF wasn't what he wanted after all and will be enrolling in Maryland this week. Coxson talks about why he made the decision and what it means to him to be coming back home to play for his state school.

"After I got down to Florida I felt strongly that it wasn't the place for me," said Coxson. "There were things said and done that didn't make me feel comfortable at all. I didn't feel like I was given the same chance as the in-state players. Some people have said I was just homesick but I wasn't homesick at all. I don't want to have to sit out. I want to play so I wouldn't have given up playing unless it was that bad of a situation for me which it was."

Coxson let the UF coaches know about his feelings and they told him what he needed to do next.

"They said to give them a list of five schools that I wanted to transfer to. I gave them Ohio State, Clemson, West Virginia, Penn State and Maryland. I gave them five because they told me to but I wanted to come to Maryland once I decided that I wasn't going to stay at Florida. They said I could only choose Penn State or Maryland. Maryland was my choice from the beginning so it worked out for me."

Coxson talked about why he chose to come back home to Maryland.

"I talked things over with my family and we decided that it was the best place for me. It has the combination of academics and football that is best for me. It will be great to play in front of my family and friends all the time too."

Once Coxson told the coaches at Florida and he picked the schools he called Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator James Franklin. It was the only coach he contacted at any school.

"I called Coach Franklin and he was real excited about having me come and play. We talked about the process for me sitting out this year but getting right to practice with them. He also talked about my role on the team and some special things they plan to do with me. I also talked with players that I know on the team so I am ready to get going. I got the paperwork and stuff done and I am ready to get out to the practices with my teammates this week."

Coxson also mentioned that not playing is only going to fuel his fire to perform for the Maryland fans.

"If you think I was ready before just wait till I get on the field after having to sit out a year. I haven't missed a whole season of football ever. Everybody is saying this and that about me right now and that makes me want to show everybody that much more. I can promise you I will be coming back stronger and faster than ever. I will have a major chip on my shoulder with something to prove. I am going to let it rip. I am excited to be able to represent Maryland at my state school and show the nation what we have here."

As far as what the Terp fans can expect from the ultra-confident Coxson.

"I am coming to do what I do best which is straight up ballin. We will show what we can do at Maryland as student-athletes. I am not just coming to win an ACC Championship. I am coming to win a National Championship."
