A Look at 2012 Commitments

University of Memphis coach Larry Porter is working with some momentum in the 2012 class. He's picked up five commitments in the month of July and is set to keep up the pace in the next months. Inside, TigerAuthority takes a look at the current commitments and what they bring to the Tigers.

Eric Belew, S, Columbia: 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. Two-star rating by Scout. Last season, Belew had 750 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He added five interceptions on defense. Belew should bring a sense of leadership to the Tigers after leading his high school team to a state championship last season in spite of losing one of his teammates to cancer midseason.

Wynton McManis, OLB, Olive Branch: 6-foot-1, 205 pounds. Unranked by Scout. McManis is an impressive athlete and he's accustomed to winning at Olive Branch High. McManis has earned a reputation for not giving up on plays and playing hard every snap. He should help shore up the Tigers' linebacker situation in 2012.

Will Gross, QB, Melrose: 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. Four-star rating by Scout, No. 14 quarterback in 2012 class. Gross threw for 2,333 yards and 34 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions last season. Gross brings dynamic playmaking ability to the Tigers and surely improves the current quarterback situation. Gross could start from day one.

Nicholas Gibbons, OL, Stephenson: 6-foot-4, 282 pounds. Two-star rating by Scout. Gibbons is capable of playing either tackle or guard for the Tigers and will shore up the offensive line.

Sheldon Dawson, ATH, Ridgeway: 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. Three-star rating by Scout. As the second back for Ridgeway last season, Dawson rushed for 1,108 yards and 14 touchdowns on only 53 carries, averaging almost 21 yards a carry. Ridgeway coach Duron Sutton called Dawson the best athlete he's ever coached. Dawson can play on both sides of the ball as either a tailback or defensive back. U of M coach Larry Porter will have options with Dawson.
