Alex Poythress, a 2012 five-star forward from Northeast High School (Clarksville, Tenn.) is down to five: Kentucky, Duke, Memphis, Vanderbilt, and Florida.

Poythress trimmed his list Monday afternoon.

"I just did it for myself so I can start focusing on school and schoolwork," Poythress told TigerAuthority.com.

Poythress took an unofficial visit to Kentucky over the weekend and said the staff in Lexington is one of the best in the country.

"(Kentucky coach John) Calipari is someone I can talk to and relate to," Poythress said. "Everything at Kentucky makes it one of the top basketball schools."

Poythress had good things to say about Memphis, as well.

"It‘s a good basketball city," Poythress said. "I really think I can fit well in their offense. Coach (Josh) Pastner is a good coach and a pretty cool person."

Poythress said he intends to take official visits to the final schools on his list but that nothing has been finalized yet.

"I'm just waiting and seeing," Poythress said.
