AT A GLANCE: Michigan

The No. 10 Memphis Tigers face off against No. 17 Michigan in the first round of the Maui Invitational. Here are some of the essentials of what you need to know heading in.

Michigan AT A GLANCE

Head coach: John Beilein (69-67)

Last season's finish: 21-14, 9-9 in Big Ten. Lost in third round of NCAA tournament.

This season: 3-0.

Biggest personnel loss: Darius Morris to the NBA.

Key players: Tim Hardaway Jr., averaging 14.3 points per game this season. Evan Smotrycz, averaging 10 points and three rebounds per game.

Projected starters against Memphis: Trey Burke, Hardaway Jr., Zack Novak, Smotrycz, and Jordan Morgan.

The gameplan: Not to make it an open court, run-out game. If Memphis has 110-120 possessions, it is likely winning the game. If the Wolverines can limit the Tigers' opportunities in transition (which is easier said than done), Michigan will have a chance to win. While Michigan isn't the slow, sloppy team it looked like against Western Illinois, it's not built to keep up with the caliber of athletes Memphis boasts. A 62-55 game would almost certainly favor Michigan.
