Senior Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) big man Charles Mitchell picked up an offer from the University of Memphis last week, and he's glad he did.

"They have a great program," said Mitchell, a four-star center. "Josh Pastner is a great coach. I like his style and the way he runs his teams."

Mitchell said he's being recruited by Maryland, Tennessee, Florida State, and Cincinnati among others. He hasn't taken any official visits but he said he'll most likely take one to Memphis at some point.

Until he does visit Memphis and other schools on his list, though, he said he won't make any decision.

And if Wheeler High sounds familiar, it's because that's where Jelan Kendrick played his senior year. Kendrick notoriously transferred to Ole Miss before suiting up for Memphis in a single regular-season game.

"I knew about Memphis before Jelan," Mitchell said. "I've been watching (sophomore forward) Tarik (Black) since he's been there. I like how he plays and how they use him."

Mitchell said he's looking for a coaching staff that's adept at communication.

"It's relationship with the coaches," Mitchell said. "It's all about whether or not it's a great environment for me as a basketball player."
