As soon as he committed to the University of Memphis last month, Arlington (Texas) High School tight end/offensive lineman Daniel Montiel completely closed off communication with other schools.

Although he didn't approach his official visit with any doubts, this past weekend for Montiel confirmed that he made the right decision.

"I just feel like it was everything I expected," said Montiel, who will play tight end at Memphis. "It was awesome. Everything was just nice. It was awesome."

Montiel said he was most impressed with the new $1 million weight room.

"That was insane," Montiel said. "It was crazy how nice it was. I was just so fascinated with it."

Montiel was one of seven recruits that visited Memphis this weekend. Although no commitments resulted as of Sunday, Montiel said he feels like the recruits enjoyed it as much as he did.

"I feel like some were committed to other places, but they got the same impression I did and the visit made them take a second look," Montiel said. "With (Memphis coach Justin) Fuente doing what he's doing, it's kinda hard to turn it down, especially in the great city of Memphis."

Montiel met Fuente last month when he stopped by his high school but said seeing him on campus was even more impressive.

"I feel like everything he told me about the campus and the city itself was all true," Montiel said. "It was just awesome. He's really gonna do things at Memphis and they can turn things around."
