Hobbs down to three

Mesquite Horn (Mesquite, Texas) senior tight end Vincent Hobbs is now down to three schools.

Mesquite Horn (Mesquite, Texas) senior tight end Vincent Hobbs is now down to three schools: the University of Memphis, Colorado State, and Colorado, his coach, Rodney Webb, told TigerAuthority.com Wednesday afternoon.

He said the plan is for Hobbs to visit Colorado officially this weekend and then make a decision, either on Sunday or Monday.

Hobbs visited Memphis two weekends ago and also took an official visit to Texas this past weekend. The Longhorns will likely not offer, Webb said.

"He really enjoyed the (Memphis) visit," Webb said. "(Tight ends/special teams) coach (James) Shibest has done a really good job recruiting him."

Hobbs is rated a 3-star tight end by Scout. Webb said Memphis made a favorable impression on Hobbs and that the relative proximity of Memphis to Mesquite is a plus for Hobbs.

"I think geographically, it's similar. The weather is similar," Webb said. "He likes the idea of a new staff coming in. Everyone is competing for positions and he likes the idea of having to prove himself. … The direction the program is going, the new facilities – he just thinks it's a really good program."

Webb said his conversations with new Memphis coach Justin Fuente, who was the co-offensive coordinator at TCU before taking over at Memphis, have been overwhelmingly positive.

"Justin is a guy who's got a lot of respect from high school coaches in Texas," Webb said. "He's one of the brightest young coaches in the country. Among college coaches, he's highly regarded. I think he'll do a good job recruiting."

Webb said they've discussed using Hobbs off the line of scrimmage as an H-back.

"But I'm not sure that's been decided," Webb said. "That's been their preliminary idea."
