Lindale (Lindale, Texas) offensive lineman Micah Simmons didn't think he was signing to play for a BCS school when he signed with Memphis earlier this month.

But, with Memphis accepting an invitation to join the Big East in 2013, Simmons was indeed signing with a future BCS school. And he's excited.

"I think it's an overall great move," Simmons said.

Simmons is rated a 2-star offensive lineman by Scout.

"It's a strong, competitive and growing conference," he said. "Being able to play big games against Houston, Boise State, SMU, and Cincinnati to name a few, I think is going to be huge for the Memphis football program.

"It presents strong competition and a platform for Memphis football to be respected as a very competitive program once again."

Simmons was part of a Lindale team that finished 10-3 overall. He also lettered in baseball, track and field and powerlifting. He was named District 14-AAA Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2010 and 2011.
