Olive Branch (Miss.) linebacker Wynton McManis was Memphis' first verbal commitment of the 2012 class. McManis, who signed earlier this month, said he's thrilled about the Tigers' move to the Big East.

"It's just really a life thing," McManis said. "It happens for a reason. This is another stepping stone. It's gonna be a big time step up in talent and we're gonna play more talent in the Big East."

McManis said he thinks the affiliation with the Big East will help attract more talent in the coming classes at Memphis.

"Sometimes it's just the name of who you're gonna play that everybody talks about and wants to see," he said.

The 2012 football season will be Memphis' last in Conference USA. The Tigers join the Big East in 2013 as all-sports members.
