Memphis Whitehaven standout defender Darrius Sims is busy checking out schools, and wanted to stop by the University of Memphis to get to know the Tiger's new coaching staff. Sims took an unofficial visit Wednesday and came away very impressed with several things.

Sims, a 5-foot-9 175-pound corner, currently has offers from Memphis, Vanderbilt, Arkansas State, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, and Mississippi State.

This week is a very busy week for Sims. After a visit to Memphis on Wednesday, he visited Arkansas State on Thursday and plans on taking a trip to Mississippi State on Saturday.

"My visit to Memphis turned out great," Sims said. "I get a long really well with all of their coaches. I get a long great with Coach Scott and Coach Vaughn."

It also appears that he is building a solid relationship with new Memphis Head Coach Justin Fuente.

"He really is a good guy," Sims said. "I didn't know a lot about him, I'm getting to know him a lot better. He is a good coach and a real people person. I could see myself getting a long with him for my four years of college."

Sims believes that Fuente is in the process of building something very special at his hometown university.

"I like the way they have plans of building something special here," Sims said. "I'm really looking forward to see them play this season and see what they are going to be like my senior season."

Scout.com will keep in touch with Sims and give you updates on his other two visits in the next few days.
