Pre-Spring: TE's To Watch

The tight end position hasn't exactly been a strength in recent years inside the state of Florida. However this coming season looks to be very promising with several kids at this position that have a chance to be major recruits.

OCTAVIUS DARBY, 6-3, 215, HOLLYWOOD (CHAMINADE)
A talented pass-catching tight end, Darby brought in eight passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns as a junior in a run-oriented offense. With a good combination of size and athletic ability, Darby has the potential to be a difference maker at the tight end position.

DANE GUTHRIE, 6-3, 240, MIAMI (COLUMBUS)
The younger brother of former Boston College standout Sean Guthrie, Dane had over 200 yards and 4 touchdowns receptions as a junior. He was arguably the premier tight end in Dade County. He has an athletic build with lots of strength and toughness. He'll look to expand his role on offense as a senior but he's clearly among the most talented tight ends in the state.

BRANDON LEDBETTER, 6-4, 210, FT. LAUDERDALE (ST. THOMAS AQUINAS)
A pass-catching specialist that played at Hollywood Hills as a junior, Ledbetter finished the season with 18 receptions for 385 yards and five touchdowns. He played the wide receiver position and will likely do the same this season to take advantage of his pass-catching skills. After playing at 185 pounds last season, he's gained close to 25 pounds and projects as a tight end at the college level. He runs smooth routes, has tremendous hands, and is a high energy kid on the football field.

OTHERS:

When I watched Lincoln's game against Palm Bay, they had a kid that looked like a potential Div 1 kid. Venice has a kid named Brad Allen that I love but I think he has a little more upside on defense so I'll list him with the d-ends, even though a lot of schools will recruit him to play tight end. There's also a kid from Carol City named Akeem Robinson who has size and athletic ability that is pretty good, but he just didn't make any plays as a junior. Athletically, he's off the charts and is a dominating basketball player for the Chiefs. In one game late in the season, he had 17 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals -- pretty impressive stuff.
