9/21 Injury Analysis

The Hurricanes are set to leave for Pittsburgh tomorrow and they'll be without some key players. Read on for the latest injury update and how it will impact the game.

The University of Miami released its official injury report this afternoon and several players are listed. Here's a position-by-position look at how the injuries may affect the team.

QB: None

RB: Senior Graig Cooper is listed as doubtful. He sprained his ankle before the Ohio State game and will likely miss his second straight game. This shouldn't impact the Canes much since he was the team's No. 4 running back so far this season. Look for Damien Berry, Lamar Miller, and Mike James to continue getting the carries at running back. Freshman Darion Hall is out for the season and will redshirt.

FB: John Calhoun is done for the season but wasn't expected to play anyway. Pat Hill's backup is freshman Maurice Hagens.

WR: None

TE: None

OL: Senior right tackle Joel Figueroa, who was noticed limping around at times during the Ohio State game, is listed as questionable. Even if he's able to play, look for redshirt freshman Jermaine Johnson to get a lot of reps at right tackle in this game. He'll likely get the start if Fig can't play. Johnson has been Miami's No. 6 lineman this season. Backup guard Malcolm Bunche will not play. The Canes have only used three guards -- Jared Wheeler as the backup -- so far this season and that should continue Thursday.

DL: Curtis Porter, who hurt his knee against Ohio State, will not play. That hurts the depth at defensive tackle, since Luther Robinson is listed as questionable. If Robinson is able to play, he'll be the 4th tackle. If he can't go, expect Allen Bailey to get some snaps inside. Tackle Jeremy Lewis is done for the season but wasn't expected to play much anyway. Backup defensive end Marcus Robinson is questionable. If Bailey is forced to be played inside and Robinson can't go, look for redshirt freshman Dyron Dye to see extended playing time at end.

LB: Backup middle linebacker Kelvin Cain is out for this game so the Canes are thin at MLB. Look for Colin McCarthy to get most of the reps, if not all of them. Kevin Nelson is the team's third MLB but it's very doubtful that he'll play in this game on defense. Travis Williams and Shayon Green are both finished for the season. Williams will redshirt, while Green wasn't expected to play much anyway.

DB: Backup cornerback Lee Chambers is out and won't play. He wasn't expected to play much anyway. The top 4 corners remain the same.
