Canes Wrap Up Homestand

Miami wraps up a nine-game homestand with a three-game series against Boston College that begins tonight, and ends on Sunday, March 23, at Mark Light Field. Tonight and tomorrow's games are set for 7 p.m. with Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m.

The No. 13/18/15 (Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, Sports Weekly/ESPN) Hurricanes are 17-4 on the season and 6-1 on their current homestand. BC is 8-7 on the season.

Fox Sports Net Florida will carry two games live over the weekend, starting with Friday night's series opener at 7 p.m. Fox will then carry Sunday's game at 1 p.m.. The student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM (90.5 FM) will once again carry all three games. Miami's flagship station WQAM (560 AM) will carry Friday night's game.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the BIG EAST's Boston College and Miami on the baseball diamond. The Hurricanes hold a 1-1 record on the season against BIG EAST teams.

UM left-hander J.D. Cockroft will carry a perfect 4-0 record to the mound Friday night against Chris Lambert (RHP, 2-0, 2.91 ERA) of Boston College. Saturday's game will feature Vince Bongiovanni (3-1, 2.23 ERA) on the hill for UM, while Kevin Shepard (LHP, 2-1, 2.59 ERA) will counter for BC. Brandon Camardese (LHP, 4-0, 2.70) will get the call on Sunday against the Eagles' right-hander Matt Elfeldt.

Freshmen Ryan Braun and Gaby Sanchez lead the way at the plate for Miami, which is batting .312 as a team. Braun leads the club with a .390 batting average and seven home runs. Sanchez's .369 average is second for the Hurricanes, while his 22 RBIs are a team best. On the mound, UM sports a team ERA of 3.37 and is holding opponents to a .231 batting average.

Boston College is hitting .264 as a team, while averaging 4.86 runs per game. Ryan Leary leads the BC regulars with a .308 average and eight RBIs. The pitching staff has an impressive 3.31 ERA, while holding opponents to a .258 batting average.
