Profile 2004 - Fred Davis (WR)

When it comes to the big-time offensive recruits from Big 10 country, one of the elite prospects is Fred Davis from Toledo (Ohio) Rogers High School. Davis, 6-4 and 210 pounds, will be one of the most sought after wide receivers in the nation this upcoming recruiting season.

Last season as a junior, Davis played both running back and receiver and put up some big numbers. He rushed for over 1,100 yards and caught 50 passes for over 700 yards. Threw the air and on the ground, Davis scored 26 touchdowns. Defensively, he registered 80 tackles and 2 interceptions playing strong safety and cornerback.

His athletic talents don't end on the gridiron. He played center for the Rogers High School basketball team and averaged 15 points per game. Davis also happens to be one of the top hurdlers from the state of Ohio in the 110 and 300. He made state as a sophomore and he plans on bringing home some hardware next month in that meet.

"I just have the combination of size, speed and strength," Davis said. "Out there on the field, I am going to burn right by you if I am one on one. I am physical out there to. I can do a little bit of everything. I compare my game to that of Terrell Owens. I like the way he plays and that he's a physical receiver."

According to Davis, he currently has 16 scholarship offers from such schools as USC, Tennessee, Texas, Miami, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland and Syracuse. For now, he has one leader.

"My favorite team right now is Ohio State but I know them the best. The program is great and I love their coaching staff. I have been there and they would give me a chance to play early. They already treat me like I am part of the family.

"I also like Miami, USC, Texas and Tennessee. I want to take all of my visits and get out there and see what places are like. I also want to find a team that will give me a chance to play."

Davis plans on attending the Nike Camp at Michigan as well as a bunch of team camps this summer.
