The Other Running Back

Recently I had the pleasure to interview South Dade's star running back Charlie Jones. Jones checked in at the Miami Nike Camp at 5'10 1/2 202lbs. From all accounts, Jones had an excellent showing that was capped off with a 37 inch vertical leap.

Last season Jones ran for 1,570 yards and 19 touchdowns. I asked Jones if there was anything he felt he needed to work on during the summer and he replied, "getting my speed up and working on my blocking." With the mass district shakeup, Jones said "I'm looking forward to seeing the teams that we have to play against."

Aside from the Nike Camp, he plans to camp at Bishop Dulligan, FIU and Miami. I asked about the Nike Camp and in general was there anything he learned from the camp and he said, "not really, I learned how to move my arms when running the forty." Jones told me no one really impressed him at the camp as far as other prospects.

"Pretty much even," he responded when I asked if any team led for his services. Jones claims offers from Miami, Duke, Auburn, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Kansas State. However Jones' favorites are Miami, Tennessee, Iowa St., Kansas St., and Pittsburgh. I asked Jones what is he looking for in a school and he said, "good education and early playing time."

Jones spoke about all the schools:

Miami: "Just been wanting to go there."

Tennessee: "I like Tennessee, my head coach Don Drinkhaan used to go there and he introduced me to their program."

Big 12 schools: "Pretty much have offensive styles that I like, I-formation, power style."

Pittsburgh: "Pretty much the same as the rest."
