Coach Morris Greets Fans

CORAL GABLES, FL - Friday night under the lights took on a new meaning this evening when head baseball Coach Jim Morris stopped by All Sports to meet and greet Hurricane supporters from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Fresh off of coaching his squad to the 2001 National Championship, Morris delivered for the fans much like his group of Hurricanes did in Omaha a few weeks back.

Many fans lined the store with baseballs, bats and hats to be signed while others were content just shaking hands and thanking the coach for bringing the title back to home to Coral Gables. The Hurricanes, without some of the star power of season's past, went 4-0 in Omaha and clobbered the Stanford Cardinal 12-1 in the Championship game.

Longtime Hurricane fan Christian Meyer, in Miami from San Francisco on business, stopped by All Sports with the intent of buying some National Championship memorabilia for famiily back home. One can imagine his surprise when he was greeted by Miami leader Jim Morris.

"I had no idea Coach Morris would be at the store today. I innocently stopped by to pick up some of the championship gear and chat with the familiar All Sports faces. Next thing I know I am face to face with Coach and talking about the Omaha experience," said Meyer. "I got to thank him in person for another National Championship and had him sign a ball for my memorabilia collection."

Meyer was just one of many well wishers on this special night. The Miami fans who rooted this underrated, overachieving squad on all season, showed their support once more on Friday evening and Coach Morris was appreciative.

"Fans at Miami are simply the best," stated Morris. "Everything starts with the fans and ends with the fans. Here at Miami we truly have the best fan support in the country."

That may be true Coach and if so, it is all due to the Hurricanes having the best skipper in the country.
