Local QB Prospect

One of the most polished athletes at quarterback in the 2004 class is Deerfield Beach's (Fla) Brent Schaeffer. Standing at 6'2 and weighing in at 185, Brent said he runs the 40 yard dash in 4.47 seconds.

During the spring Schaeffer participated at the Miami Nike Camp. "I got there late because I had to take the ACT, but the coaches waited for me and stayed after with me," said Schaeffer. He has an invitation to attend the Elite 11 QB camp in Las Vegas. "I feel it will make my stock go up going against the top QB's in the nation."

Deerfield Beach was supposed to play Edison in a jamboree to culminate the spring session. Instead, according to Schaeffer "Edison backed out and we played a intrasquad game."

Schaeffer threw for 2,578 yards, 31 touchdowns, ran for 545 yards, and 15 rushing touchdowns a season ago. When asked what he feels he needs improvment on, he answered, "I need to gain more size and strength in the weight room and arm strength." His goals for the season is to win the state championship and make some All-American lists.

Brent's role model is Michael Jordan, "because he carries himself with class and character just like me."

"Good coaching staff, prestige, education, and academics," are some of the things he is looking for in a college. "I want to major in computer graphics," he added.

While Schaeffer points to no particular team as a favorite, he claims a slew of offers from a who's who of colleges. Some of those claimed offers are from the likes of Miami, South Florida, Central Florida, Auburn, Ohio State, and Notre Dame just to name a few. "All those offers are for quarterback."
