DB Jadar Johnson Profile
Marion Hobby stopped by earlier this week. It was the second time this month he'd been by the school. The Tigers' defensive ends coach made a round through Orangeburg-Wilkinson just a few days earlier.
"He tells me just to stay focused and stay in the weight room. He told me if I keep getting bigger, they might switch me to safety," Johnson said.
No other schools have come by Orangeburg-Wilkinson to check on the 6-foot-1, 194-pound junior, but he continues to receive mail. Auburn, Marshall and Kentucky have sent information recently.
Johnson remains firm with Clemson.
"It's a solid commitment," he said.
His last visit to Tigertown was for the Orange and White spring game. He'll be back in Tigertown later this summer for camp.
Then, about seven months after camp, Johnson will head up to Clemson for good.
"I'm going to enroll early after I graduate in December," he said.
Johnson added, "A lot of freshmen come in during the summer and rush to get the plays in. If I'm there for spring practice, I'll have the plays before a lot of freshmen and have a better chance to get on the field."
Orangeburg-Wilkinson head coach Tommy Brown said the Tigers are not only getting a good player, but also a good person.
"He's a great kid, a blessed kid who works hard. He believes in what he does and is very confident in what he does," Brown said. "He's hard working. Everything he's got he's earned, even though he's talented. A lot of talented kids don't want to work. This young man, when he stepped in here, he was working, and working hard."
As a junior, Johnson had 50 tackles, four interceptions, including one for a touchdown, and 10 pass breakups. On offense, he caught 60 passes and scored nine touchdowns.
