Analysis: Joe Mathis is one of the top overall prospects in the state of California in the 2013 class. At 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, he's emerged as a national recruit at the defensive end position. Miami was one of his 52 early offers and now they're one of the ten schools he's still considering. They join Alabama and Tennessee as the only schools in the Southeast that he's still considering. Most of the schools he's still looking at are on the West Coast and he's already taken visits to Nebraska, Michigan, and Nebraska. He's developed a good relationship with Miami's coaches and the Canes have a major need to land a premier defensive end prospect but until he takes a visit here later in the year, if that happens, it'll be difficult to tell how serious his interest in Miami really is. He plans to cut his list down to five during the middle part of his senior season but he's certainly someone to keep an eye on for now.
