OL Planning UM Visit

At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, Erie (Pa.) McDowell standout offensive lineman Kyle Mitchum has been making the most of his summer vacation.

"I've been taking a bunch of unofficial visits and stuff," Mitchum said. "I've already been to Michigan, Ohio State, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina this summer. And I made visits in the spring to Pitt, Penn State, and Syracuse. I still have a few more left too."

One of the remaining summer visits on the schedule for Mitchum and his coach is to Miami.

"We're looking for cheap plane tickets right now," he said. "We'll probably end up going at the end of this month. It's one of the places I still want to visit before I start narrowing my list down."

That list of college choices is up to 23, Mitchum said.

"I have about 23 offers right now," he said. "Everyone of them is about the same right now. I'm trying to get a feel for everyone on these visits so I can cut it down to a top five when the season starts. Then those will be the five that I take official visits to."

"All of the schools I've visited plus Miami are ones I'm looking at real hard right now," he said. "None of them really stand out above the rest."

Mitchum, who also competes on the varsity weightlifting team (350 bench and 430 squat), is waiting for SAT results to come back. In the meantime, he's gearing up for his trip to UM.

"Coach Kehoe came by in the spring and was impressed with the way I play," he said. "They offered me a little bit later. Miami's a great school. They've had a few great seasons in a row and that should continue. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to meet the coaches and see the campus and stuff."
