Miami Prospect Profile: DE Tim Williams

Let's take a closer look at the prospects for Miami's 2013 recruiting class. Today, we look at defensive end Tim Williams.

Tim Williams -- Baton Rouge (LA) LSU Lab

Scout Ranking: 4-star and No. 18 DE

Measurables: 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds

2011 Stats: Williams finished his junior season with 115 tackles and 16 sacks

What they're saying: Williams is an athletic guy who plays with his hand down, but has the ability to play out of the two-point stance. He attacks the ball well, he plays with speed, and he really closes on the ball well. He comes off the ball low, he has shown the ability to get off blocks, and to play the run. He is best when attacking the quarterback. He can still improve his strength, his moves off the ball, and his technique. - Chad Simmons/Scout.com

Recruiting Status: Miami offered Williams very early in the recruiting process and they're one of five schools he mentions as being one of his top choices. Alabama, LSU, Florida State, and Florida are the other four.

What he's saying about Miami: "They're recruiting me hard and I have some interest in them. I want to get down there and check them out."

Miami angle: The Hurricanes will likely sign just one defensive end in the 2013 class and the ones they're recruiting the hardest right now are all from outside the state of Florida. Williams is one of them. However, it's going to be very difficult getting him away from SEC country. He's been to Alabama and LSU multiple times and has said on numerous occasions that they're his top two choices. That hasn't changed in several months. He does plan on taking some other visits, though, and he's always mentioned Miami as being one of the possible destinations. It's likely a major longshot for the Canes, though, even if he does end up making a visit here.
