Scout Ranking: 4-star and No. 15 S
Measurables: 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds
2011 Stats: Carter finished his junior season with 40 tackles and three interceptions.
What they're saying: Carter is a very talented safety prospect who has the size and tackling ability to play up near the box as a strong safety. He's also athletic enough and has the necessary ball skills to play free safety in college. --Mike Bakas
Recruiting Status: Carter landed scholarship offers from all over very early in the process and committed to Miami in late July. He is a firm commitment heading into the start of the season.
What he's saying about Miami: "I really like the coaches, what they're saying and how they are. Coach Golden is trying really hard to get UM back to what it was in the past and I think he's gonna be the man to do it. All the coaches are really cool with you."
Miami angle: The Hurricanes signed two safeties in the 2012 class so they probably want to sign one or two more in the 2013 class. Carter was the most heavily recruited safety in the state this year, having collected scholarship offers from all three major Florida schools. He favored Florida State early in the process but coaches like Al Golden and Micheal Barrow did a good job changing his mind and getting him on board with the Canes. He has ideal size, ideal speed and athleticism, and he's a tremendous football player. He is solid with his commitment to the Canes, even though he may take some other visits later in the year. Carter was one of the defensive priorities in the 2013 class so getting him on board before his senior season even started was huge.
