Johnson competing for starting spot

Jermaine Johnson is impervious to last year's criticism about him and is feeling comfortable on the offensive line for this year. Read on to see what he's saying.

Q: Coaches were saying that you were in a funk last year. Did you sense that? How did you get out of it?
A: I did. I just think about life itself. You just got to be determined, and I'm trying to self-motivate myself by just coming out here and being the same guy every day. As of right now, what this really means is that I have to step my stuff up.

Q: How hard did you work to get to where you are now?
A: I had to come out here running every day and busting my butt off.

Q: What do you think of your teammates this year?
A: We got a good group of guys right now. We got Brandon Linder, Feliciano, Shane McDermott, Malcolm Bunche, me and Lewis is coming along. This is a real special O-line this year.

Q: Do you guys feel like you all know your roles?
A: We know our stuff. We study hard every day. We got to get it down and gritty, so we're just coming together as an O-line, and if anybody feels like they need help they shouldn't be afraid to ask any questions because we're here for each other and we're grinding together.

Q: There hasn't been a lock down on who might be playing the right tackle position. What do you think about the position?
A: We're floating and doing our job. We're battling every day, competition wise. We're just out here fighting but at the end of the day, we'll be alright.

Q: Would you feel comfortable playing right tackle?
A: Yeah. I feel comfortable in any position on the O-line. I have all the confidence in the world. I've been through it all.
