Pierre says there are no excuses

Olsen Pierre is one of the starters at defensive tackle now. Read on to see everything he's saying.

Olsen Pierre feels that this year's D-line is more like a family. Read on to see what he has to say about this year's defense.

Q: How do you feel about your team after the scrimmage?
A: I think we're getting better. We're young but there isn't [any] excuses for that. That's why we're getting stronger, better and more physical.

Q: What are some of the weaknesses and strengths in the defensive line?
A: Some of the guys need to be taking time to get down the plays, but we're getting better every day at practice.

Q: How is the d-line compared to last year? A: We're more family-like. A lot of older guys last year didn't know what to do with us. But, this year, [with] a lot of the young guys, we're teaching them more, coaching them more and making them more like a family.

Q: What are some of the errors the younger guys are committing this year?
A: I think it's the system and doing the plays. That's what every freshman is having problems with. But that's what we are here for. We're helping every day.

Q: What type of things have you done to help out those freshmen?
A: Every time we go to the rooms, [I] study plays with them and go over plays to get them more comfortable with the system.

Q: You've been here for two year. Do you feel more comfortable with the playbook?
A: I feel like Coach Jet (Jethro Franklin) has helped me know the playbook a lot. I feel like I know the playbook like the back of my hand. I just keep trying to learn more and more.

Q: You were committed to the coaches when you were at Temple. What made you go over to the U?
A: I just felt comfortable with Coach Golden. He's a good guy. I wanted to be a part of that. He's a smart, strong guy. I feel like he knows what he's doing, [and] that he knows college football so well he can coach for a long time. So, I wanted to be with a guy who had a lot of experience.

Q: What has Jacoby Briscoe, Dequan Ivery and Earl Moore shown as defensive tackles?
A: They're young, but they're quick and athletic. They're strong and they're guys that we're going to need this season.

Q: Who would you say you're looking forward to stepping up on Saturday's scrimmage?
A: I think all of us have to step up for the scrimmage. All of us need to have at least two sacks each.

Q: Were you comfortable about your number for the last scrimmage?
A: Nah, but that's how I get better every day. I never get comfortable.

Q: What are you doing to improve on your game?
A: I work every day after practice. They have all been in the NFL and they all know how it works. So, I'll be working with them a lot.
