Johnell Barnes recaps Duke visit

Against Florida International the Blue Devil passing attack was on full display to the delight of the crowd in Wallace Wade Stadium. Included in that crowd was future Duke receiver Johnell Barnes who recapped the visit for TDD.

"We had planned to come up a while back," said Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar standout Johnell Barnes. "After our game on Friday we got in the car and headed to Durham with [fellow commit] T.J. [Douglas]. His dad is my god-father, so it was nice to make the long trip with family."

Barnes arrived on Game Day and said he was somewhat surprised that the Duke coaches were so willing to take time out of the pre-game preparation to talk with he and family.

"That was really great. We were mainly there to see them play, but when Coach Cutcliffe came down out of his office to talk for more than 40 minutes with us, it just showed how much they care about their players and families."

Following the talk with his future coach, Barnes and Douglas made their way to the stadium to see the Blue Devils put on a big performance against Florida International. One that left a lasting impression on the future wide receiver.

"I was really surprised with how they do things. I knew it was a spread offense, and I'd seen it on tape, but to see it live and in person is really amazing. They were throwing the ball around and down the field. I guess seeing it live makes you appreciate just how intense that system really is. I'm excited to be a part of it."

Barnes also indicated that the entire road tripping crew - himself, Douglas, and families, were all equally impressed.

"They all loved it. The atmosphere on campus, the the coaches, and the general feel of Duke was perfect. Everything went really well and Duke really showed how we do things."

Prior to the trip, Barnes led Dunbar High with 3 catches for 57 yards in a 45-0 victory.
