DL Hoping For UM Offer

At 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge standout defensive end Joe Joseph spent most of his summer inside the classroom rather than on a football field.

"I was in summer school trying to get ahead," Joseph said. "It's not that I was behind or anything. That prevented me from going to a bunch of camps. I went to the NIKE one at Florida and a football camp at UCF. And I've been working out with my team a lot."

Joseph, who is waiting on SAT scores to come back, began playing football in 8th grade and has now emerged as one of the top recruits in the Orlando area.

"It's going alright," he said. "There's been a lot of schools talking to me. My top five right now are Miami, Florida, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Florida, South Carolina, and UCF have already offered me."

Joseph, who had 14 sacks as a junior and also competes in basketball and track, is still waiting on offers from Miami and Tennessee.

"Ohio State actually offered me verbally but I haven't seen anything official," he said. "Miami and Tennessee haven't offered at all."

The talented defensive lineman says he spoke to UM in the spring.

"They stopped by the school too," he said. "They mostly talked with my coach. I've just always liked Miami since I was little and I think it would be a great place to play college football at. Plus they have a good engineering program and that's going to be my major. If they were to offer me, it'd be hard to turn against it."

Joseph said some schools are recruiting him to play end, while others like him at tackle.

"When I look at the depth chart, it's tough to tell because I don't know whether to check the ends or tackles," he said. "So I guess I haven't really looked at that much yet."
