Blanding Down to 10

Quin Blanding is the top junior safety prospect in the country. After receiving close to 30 scholarship offers, Blanding has trimmed his list 10 schools.

Over the past several months, Quin Blanding has established himself as one of the top junior prospects in the country. After receiving numerous scholarship offers, the Bayside High (Virginia Beach, Va.) star has trimmed his list to 10 schools.

"I've had fun throughout the recruiting process," said Quin Blanding. "But I just felt like it was time to make some decisions and come up with at least a top ten. Now I can look at all ten schools, see which programs fit me, and where I can see myself playing."

"I'm down to Florida State, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio State, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Miami, Clemson, and Michigan. All the schools are even."

Blanding did his research before narrowing his list.

"I really just sat down and looked at the depth charts," said the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Blanding. "I know most of them have young teams, but I just felt like I could go to those schools be a factor on defense."

After starting the season 2-2, Bayside won its final six games.

"We started playing as one," he said. "At first, we didn't really play together. We didn't play up to our standard level. But we stepped it up a notch and matured as a team."

The five-star prospect feels good about the way he has performed this season.

"I think I did really good this year – I think I had a solid year," he said. "That's all I was hoping for. I just wanted to come out and play hard on offense and defense."

What will be the next step for Blanding?

"I'll probably go down to a top five," said Blanding. "I'm going to try to visit most of the schools on my list."

The Bayside standout knows what he is looking for at the next level.

"The relationships I have with coaches and also the players there will be important," he said. "I just want to go there and feel like a family. Also, I want to know that wherever I go, I'll be able to get on the field early."

Bayside is 8-2 and plays Oscar Smith Friday at 7 p.m.
