QUOTEBOARD: Purdue 73 Clemson 61

CLEMSON - Brad Brownell won't get too jacked up about whittling a 20-point halftime deficit into single digits.

Clemson trailed Purdue 42-22 at halftime in the loss to Purdue in the ACC/Big10 Challenge. With less than two minutes to play, the Tigers briefly cut the lead to nine before the Boilermakers closed out with a 73-61 win.

"I told our team at halftime, you're down 20…if you don't fight back when you're down 20 -- most rats fight in a corner. You're expected to do that," Brownell said.

The Tigers' third-year head coach said his team "didn't do enough things at a high level" to make it a closer score with more time left to play.

"Some of that's because of Purdue. They executed well," he said. "Our lack of shooting and little bit of defensive lapses, late."

Milton Jennings' suspension…

"I'm definitely disappointed. He is a grow man and I can't tell him what to do. He makes his own decisions, but I'm definitely disappointed in him, and hopefully he will learn from his mistake and come back strong." - Devin Booker

"I'm going to evaluate it here through the week and come to a decision on what I think is best and what I want to do." - Brownell

"I believe he could have helped. It just gives us a preview for next year, how it's going to be next year. We have to come out there and play hard, no matter who is out." - K.J. McDaniels

Hot shooting D.J. Byrd

"It didn't surprise me that Byrd, he's an outstanding shooter. He got into his rhythm and we couldn't find anyway to stop him." - McDaniels

"Certainly, D.J. Byrd making those 3's at the beginning of the game was a big part of it. He got them off to a great start and we did not respond well." - Brownell

"We had no one that could stop him. He just kept shooting and kept making them. That's what turned the game." - Booker

Cold shooting Tigers…

"Obviously, our lack of shooting was extremely problematic. You just can't shoot 4 of 23." - Brownell

"From the free-throw line, it just means that we have to concentrate more, catch our breath…we just have to concentrate, keep our focus and hit the buckets." - McDaniels
