Westin (Fla.) Cypress Bay cornerback Boaz Joseph has been on Kentucky's recruiting radar for more than a year now, but the transition to Mark Stoops as head coach may give the Wildcats an even better shot at the three-star DB.
"I was kind of surprised when I heard (about Stoops to Kentucky)," Joseph said. "I had been hearing a little bit from them at Florida State, too, so that was good when he was hired at Kentucky.
"He's been in touch with me and let me kow that they need some DBs to come in and help right away."
Joseph (6-0, 190, 4.5) is a corner with size and speed that UK has been trying to find to match up with the bigger, physical receivers in the SEC. In addition to the Wildcats, he holds offers from programs like Georgia, Missouri, Nebraska, Purdue, Minnesota, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
But good luck getting him to talk too much about those right now. He has one and only one focus on his mind for at least the next six days.
"Getting that ring," said Joseph, whose Cypress Bay (12-2) team will play for the 8A championship on Saturday against Apopka (12-2). It's the first time in school history the Lightning has advanced to the finals. "All of my focus is on that right now. I'm not even thinking about recruiting at all until that's over, and hopefully we'll be state champions."
Joseph made an official visit to Purdue in the fall. He has four official visits remaining, but has not decided where they will come. He did say, however, that he likes what he's hearing from Kentucky and has always liked the fact that the Wildcats play in the SEC. "That's a big thing in their favor."
