Chad Morris, a Texas native and graduate of Texas A&M University, is one of the leading candidates to replace Tommy Tuberville at Texas Tech.
Texas Tech officials flew to Anderson Regional Airport earlier Tuesday afternoon to interview Morris for the position.
Sources tell CUTigers Texas Tech is one of the few jobs coveted by Morris and that he will accept the position if offered.
Former Texas Tech quarterback and current Texas A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is also one of the leading candidates to replace Tuberville.
Tuberville left Texas Tech last to accept the head coaching job at Cincinnati.
The Texas Tech plane, which landed in Anderson shortly before 4 PM, was also in Houston earlier this afternoon. An interview with Kingsbury could have taken place at that time; however that has not yet been confirmed.
Morris has drawn interest from numerous schools since his arrival at Clemson nearly two years ago.
Last offseason, Memphis and Southern Mississippi were interested in talking with Morris about their respective coaching positions, but he declined.
Within the last two weeks, N.C. State interviewed the Texas native according to several published reports. He also reportedly drew interest from South Florida and Auburn, although he indicated to CUTigers he was not interested in Aubrn.
Morris is the highest paid assistant coach in the country, making close to $1.3 million per season. He's also the architect of one of the nation's top offenses as well.
Clemson has won 20 games in two years since his arrival, and was ninth in the nation in total offense this season, averaging over 518 yards per game, and sixth in scoring offense (42.3 ppg).
Messages to Chad Morris have gone unanswered at this time.
Morris' buyout stipulates if he takes a head coaching job at another FBS school, he owes Clemson University nothing.
