Cape Coral product Regie Meant (6-3, 250) was in Pullman this weekend and got to experience the snow falling. He tells CF.C things couldn't have gone better.
"Oh man, it went great," Meant said. "It was a very good trip and it was a lot better than what I expected it to be. I liked how they described the program and how the coaches thought I could fit into the system. They players were also very welcoming and gave me a family vibe."
Meant didn't commit over the weekend, but the Cougs made a strong pitch that has him seriously considering going crimson.
"I'm very interested in them right now," Meant said. "There were times where I thought about committing, but I also want to make sure to take some other visits. I do want to stay in close contact with them because I could see myself living in Pullman for the next four years.
"Right now they're tied at the top for me with Iowa State. Kansas State would be third."
Meant was hosted by starting MIK linebacker Darryl Monroe, also a native of Florida. Meant said the two formed an instant bond and that the redshirt freshman did a great job showing him around the campus.
"He was telling me how it's a program on the rise and they're looking to do a lot of things in the future," Meant said. "He told me I can help build the defense and he also gave me good advice. When he was looking at colleges, he was also looking to move to another state and told me it wasn't a problem at all getting used to Washington."
BEING FROM THE Sunshine State, Meant had never personally seen the white stuff before until his weekend out on the Palouse. He enjoyed it thoroughly, although there was one embarrassing moment he'd like to forget.
"It was amazing to see," Meant said. "It was the first time I ever saw it and it was a great life experience for me. At one point I slipped, though (laugh). I was just walking up a hill and next thing I knew my feet went underneath me!"
Aside from the snow, there were several other highlights on the trip that he enjoyed. Chief among them, Meant said, was getting a tour of the renovations at Martin Stadium.
"I really enjoyed learning about the new facilities that they're going to bring in," Meant said. "They're going to have new locker rooms and buildings by the end zone. It all looked great and I'm sure it will look fantastic when it's done."
Meant also enjoyed his one on one time with the Cougar coaches.
"I got the chance to talk with Coach (Mike) Leach and he was telling me about his plans for the future and how he wants me to be a part of it," Meant said. "Both he and Coach (Joe) Salave'a told me they like my style of play and they want me to be a part of the Cougar family."
MEANT WILL TRAVEL to Kansas State this weekend (yet to offer) for an official visit and is scheduled to take an official visit to Iowa State on Jan. 14. Meant holds offers from Iowa State, UConn, Central Florida, Florida International, Western Michigan and several others in addition to WSU and Iowa State.
"I'm hoping to make my final decision in the middle of January," Meant said. "I want to visit some other schools and see what else is out there, but I really liked Pullman. It's a great place and a nice little college town. I feel like I could fit perfectly there."
